I am excited to share with you my recent experience at a voter awareness session held at Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School, M B Road, Sec-1, Pushp Vihar, New Delhi. This event marked the inauguration of a Voter Awareness Day and the launch of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation Program (SVEEP) at the school level in District South. Let's delve into the details of this significant event.

Date:January 16, 2024

Venue: Govt Girls Senior Secondary School, M B Road, Sec-1, Pushp Vihar, New Delhi

The occasion was graced by esteemed guests, including ADM South, Mr. Ankit Aggarwal, SDM South, Ms. Anita Rana, and DDE District-South, Dr. A K Tyagi, who were joined by Resource Persons (RPs) Ms. Ramaa Shankar and Mr. Madan Lal Sawhney. Additionally, the school's Nodal Officer for Electoral Literacy Club (ELC), a PGT (Political Science) / TGT (Social Studies) teacher, and enthusiastic students from classes 11, actively participated in the session.

The event's core purpose was to underscore the paramount importance of elections and the voting process in the true realization of democracy. It was recognized that instilling the values of appropriate selection of a democratically elected government in the young minds of our students is an indispensable task.

As a result, it was unanimously decided to empower and emphasize the roles of the school's Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) in strengthening key aspects for Students of Classes 9-12 as below:

1. Spreading Voter Awareness: Educating students about the significance of their votes and their contribution to shaping the nation's future.

2. Promoting Voter Literacy: Equipping students with a comprehensive understanding of the electoral process, from voter registration to casting their votes.

3. Accessibility and Barrier-Free Environment: Advocating for an inclusive voting environment, ensuring that every eligible citizen can exercise their right to vote without hindrance.

4. Digital Inclusion and Voter Registration Camp: Embracing technology to facilitate voter registration, making the process more accessible.

5. Mock Voting Demonstration: Providing students with a hands-on experience of the voting process, demystifying it for them.

To further enhance the session, handouts were distributed outlining suggested activities for the ELC club among the participants.

In conclusion, the Voter Awareness Day and the launch of SVEEP at the school level in District South marked a significant step towards nurturing informed and responsible citizens. It is through initiatives like these that we instill the values of democracy and the importance of active participation in our future leaders. Thank you for joining me on this journey to empower the citizens of tomorrow!
